Dishwasher/Kitchen Aide

The Brearley School is an independent girls’ school serving over 700 students K-12. We welcome candidates to apply for the full-time Dishwasher/Kitchen Aide position starting immediately.

Summary of Position

This position supports the efforts of the Department of Food Services in providing appetizing, nutritious meals, along with positive food experiences for the entire school community. Works closely with the Steward position, Kitchen Manager, and Chef at the 590 building. The Dishwasher/Kitchen will support two adjacent locations, the 610 Building, and the 590 Building.

The hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, with opportunities for overtime. This position typically starts in Mid-August through the end of June, with summers off. We offer paid holidays off and benefits.

The Pay Range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00 hourly.

Specific Duties include but are not limited to the following:

590 Building Duties:

·      Works with the Kitchen Manager, Chef, and Steward as needed. Duties include organizing the dish station, putting dishes through the dishwasher, putting away and storing clean items, washing pots and pans, sweeping and mopping the kitchen, and emptying and cleaning trash receptacles.

·      Works with the Steward and Chef in collecting lunch items for Lower School service.  Assists in the proper storage of goods in a food-safe and timely manner. 

·      Assist with the delivery of food to the kitchen.

·      Helps with food preparation as needed.  This includes working at the hot and cold stations as directed by the Chef.   

·      Performs all other duties as assigned by the Chef and Kitchen Manager.

·      All employees must check in with a supervisor when arriving and leaving work.

·      Helps maintain all areas of the kitchen and the dining room.

Helps to maintain a clean and sanitary workspace.  This includes all dining service areas, 610 and 590 locations; 610: A-deck hallway, all kitchen areas, and dining room. 

Skills/Knowledge Required

·      All work must be performed promptly and at a level consistent with the high standards and needs of the School. Must have food service experience.

·      Must interact positively with Supervisors and co-workers and work well in a team environment. Must be flexible with work and work schedules.

·      Must be friendly, courteous, polite, able to communicate well with others, and offer help when needed.

·      Must be able to speak and read English specific to work instructions and communication with students, faculty, staff, and community.

·      Moderate knife skills.

·      Experience and knowledge of proper food storage.  DOH Food Handler certificate is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

●      Ability to lift 50 lbs.

●      Ability to climb a ladder and step ladder.

●      Bend at the waist, reaching, sitting, kneeling, laying horizontally, climbing, walking, etc., as the job may require.
