General Function

The Y Arts Theatre - Teaching Artist will carry out multiple one-week theatre camps at 7 YMCA branches in Metropolitan Detroit. Teaching Artist will collaborate with Y Arts administrative staff on curriculum and carry out a camp teaching acting skills that culminates in a free performance at the Marlene Boll Theatre in downtown Detroit.

Education/Experience/Training/Certifications

  • Established local theatre/performing arts instructor with at least one year of teaching experience.
  • Leadership Experience preferred.
  • Experience with School Aged children Perferred.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborative curriculum development 
  • Instruct a class of up to 20 students ages 8 - 11 years old.
  • Travel to program sites, and bring program supplies to sites as needed
  • Attend staff meetings and training

Abilities & Skills

  • Ability to work cooperatively with a team.
  • Ability to instruct and engage with children of diverse ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Daytime availability to teach as part of the summer youth program with potential opportunities beyond summer.
  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in program activities in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings.
