Job Description

Role and Responsibilities

  • Work with health care providers and social workers at Baptist Memorial Hospitals in Tipton, Carroll and Obion County to engage individuals with harmful/risky drug and alcohol use with harm reduction education and information about treatment and recovery services.
  • Provide SUD/OUD/AUD screening for community organizations (i.e. faith-based, youth, school and other human service organizations) in the WTAN project area.
  • Provide SUD/OUD/AUD education that is evidence-based and reduces stigma and other barriers of care
  • Provide support to pregnant women, children, and other at-risk populations using approaches that minimize stigma and other barriers to care.
  • Support individuals, families, and caregivers through education regarding available SUD/OUD/AUD treatment options and assist with navigation to evidenced-based, affordable treatments.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, families, physicians, community agencies, agency leadership and office staff.

·       Distribute Narcan/Naloxone kits with an emphasis on distributing these lifesaving medications to individuals with OUD and their friends and family

·       Reduce barriers to treatment, including by supporting integrated treatment and recovery efforts between entities such as primary care service providers, behavioral health service providers, the criminal justice system, dentistry, and social services.

·       Enhance discharge coordination for people leaving inpatient treatment facilities (i.e. Vertava Health) and/or the criminal justice system who require linkages to home and community-based services and social supports, including case management, housing, employment, food assistance, transportation, medical and behavioral health services, faith-based organizations, and sober/transitional living facilities with the objective of improving health care in rural areas.

·       Support the expansion of peer recovery communities across the WTAN project area, with an emphasis on counties that have been identified as facing an acute shortage of peer recovery meetings.

·       Provide coordination of care for recovery services

·       Increase regional certified peer recovery workforce who engages with hospitals, law enforcement departments, SUD/OUD treatment programs, and in the community to demonstrate benefits of certified peer recovery specialists

·       Follows chain of command in communicating concerns or recommendations.

·       Partner with local prevention coalitions to host drug take back events

  • Participates in problem solving and performance improvement processes.
  • Support and enhance efforts of individuals seeking certified peer recovery specialist.
  • Daytime travel 25% - 50%.
  • Maintains excellent punctuality and attendance during work hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Must be certified as a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist with more than a year CPRS field experience.
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license.
  • Basic computer proficiency for reporting
