Program Assistant

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a Program Assistant at Camp Hoblitzelle in  Department in Midlothian, TX.    

Job Summary

Provides programmatic support to all program facets of The Salvation Army Hoblitzelle Camp and Conference Center including challenge courses, swimming, boating, team building exercises, etc.; assists with projects, activities, and events related to Programs for the Center.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to supervise swimmers and provide constant surveillance of pool activities in order to ensure swimmer safety and to respond to emergency rescue when needed. Ability to perform live saving techniques, C.P.R. and first aid procedures in emergency situations. Ability to enforce all pool rules. Ability to build and maintain effective mentor relationships with children and youth. Ability to test pool water to ensure the proper chemical balance as well as the safety of the swimmers. Ability to prepare and maintain up-to-date pool records. Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies. Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to participants and staff. Ability to observe participants and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques. Ability to swim and perform lifesaving activities.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or G.E.D. And One year experience performing similar programmatic duties preferred Or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Valid State Drivers License (preferred) CPR and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain within established timeframe) Lifeguard Certification (preferred) Ropes Course Certification (preferred)

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively. Some physical requirements of the position could be endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate equipment and activities are required.  Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions. Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor recreational environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
