The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Day Camp Counselor for the Marrietta Corps, located in Marrietta, GA.

Job Summary:

Leads children activities at a day camp including classroom training, tutoring, sports activities, bible study, computer programs and specialized programs; prepares and serves children lunch and snacks; assists in leading field trips; maintains the cleanliness of the camp area.

Essential Functions:

Provides constant care of the needs of the children in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner;

Develops and implements lesson plans which are age-group program specific; utilizes age-group appropriate discovery areas, enriched with program-specific activities, including teacher-made materials and hands-on activities;

Determines appropriate supplies and materials for lesson plans and recreational activities; ensures the children's safety in utilizing the same;

Provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through both inside and outside learning activities;

Prepares and serves children snacks and meals; ensures that children receive nutritional and tasteful food; provides positive, relaxed atmosphere during children mealtime encouraging conversation;

Exhibits control of the children and when needed displays proper discipline techniques;

Maintains the camp materials in an orderly fashion; maintains accountability for any laundry, money, and supplies necessary for camp programs;

Cleans kitchen, classrooms, tables, floors, etc. in accordance with established sanitary standards;

Prepares and maintains up-to-date records and required reports (attendance, development progress, discipline reports, etc.);

Assists in leading children on field trips;

Ensures the accountability, security, and safety of children participating in camp activities and field trips; reports all accidents to the supervisor in an accurate and timely manner;

Other Responsibilities:

Assists with transporting children whenever needed; ensures the safety and protection of children at all times; Attends and participates in regularly scheduled in-service training sessions.

Performs other duties as assigned. Materials and Equipment:

Computer Telephone Copier Fax Machine Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of the principles and practices of Child Behavior and Development;

Knowledge of the principles and practices of First Aid and C.P.R and ability to ensure the safety of children; Ability to teach children Christian values as well as general childhood education curriculum;

Ability to plan, develop, and implement effective childhood programs and activities; Ability to observe children and ensure their safety;

Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education and Experience High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Two (2) years' experience teaching child development programs in a church,

Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Skills and abilities.

Certifications:

Valid State Driver's License

C.P.R. and First Aid Certification Physical Requirements:

Duties are performed a Camp and Classroom setting. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.

Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting ad carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.

Working Conditions:

Work requires working indoors and outdoors daily with exposure to physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust. dirt, and the like
