The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for an Territorial Christian Education & Youth Discipleship Director for the Southern Territory Headquarters, located in Atlanta, Georgia.

 

Job Summary

Plans, develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates the Christian education, and discipleship youth programs operating throughout the Southern Territory to include Sunday School, Local Officer Training & Support, Junior Soldiers, Corps Cadets, Special Observance Resources, and Vacation Bible School.

 

Serves as a technical resource and liaison for the divisional staff. Monitors, evaluates, and reports program statistics and provides recommendations for program changes/improvements. Plans, develops, and leads a Christian Education course at the College for Officer Training.  Conducts research and locates resources that support the Youth Department goals, objectives and mission for Christian Education Development & Leadership.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission and ministry.  Knowledge of the Bible, doctrine, and theology.  Knowledge of principles and practices of Christian education, child development and family relations.  Knowledge of effective teaching skills and practices for youth programs.  Knowledge of a wide variety of creative resources and practices which facilitate the modern development and promotion of Christian education programs.  Knowledge of accepted principles and practices involved in Christian Education program development and ability to serve as a technical resource/expert to Christian Education Directors at the local level.  Ability to recruit, lead, and motivate volunteers to teach Christian education classes/programs.  Ability to serve as a resource for the development of Christian education programs.  Ability to establish and nurture relationships with adults and children of all ages and their families.  Ability to plan, organize, and promote Christian education group functions.  Ability to administer programs within established budget constraints. Ability to meet attendance requirements.  Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.  Ability to perform mathematical calculations.  Ability to operate various general office equipment including a telephone, typewriter, computer, and adding machine.

 

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field, And  Five years of experience developing and implementing a variety of Christian Education Programs.  Or Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

Bon-a-fide Occupational Qualification (BFOQ):

This position requires an active, uniform-wearing Salvationist in good standing.

 

Licenses/Certifications:  Valid State Driver's License

 

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions   

Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 30 lbs) 5-10% of work time.  Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.  Work is normally performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.    Work requires driving a vehicle and/or traveling by airplane and staying overnight at locations throughout the Southern Territory on a regular basis.
