The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Summer Camp Audio Visual & Recreation Specialist for Camp Grandview, located in, Jasper, Georgia.


Job Summary

Prepare, plan, and operate audio/visual equipment for meetings, events, classes, seminars at the Salvation Army camps. Ensure camp activities are recorded to be used in Salvation Army publications. Captures video/pictures for Salvation Army publications. Plans, coordinates, and leads all recreational sports (softball, baseball, soccer, field hockey, lacrosse, etc.) at camp. Trains other camp staff to lead, chaperone and monitor recreation activities. Ensure safety of campers and staff while participating in field, or other sporting activities and ensures a positive experience for campers. Participate and assist with camp programs and activities as directed by the Camp Director.


Essential Functions Audio/Visual (30%)

Sets up, adjusts, and operates audio/visual equipment for various camp programs, including worship services and concerts. Operates and installs audio/visual equipment. Keeps sound room clean and organized. Reports to Divisional Youth Secretary any problems with audio/visual equipment. Secures and locks all audio/visual equipment after each session. Videotapes camp activities daily. Produces a weekly review video for each camp session including all music camps. Instructs camp employees in the selection, use, and design of audio/visual materials, and assist them in the preparation of instructional materials and the rehearsal of presentations. Plans and prepares audio/visual teaching aids and methods to be used in camp classes. Performs simple maintenance tasks such as cleaning monitors and lenses and changing batteries and light bulbs. Maintains collections of audio/visual material such as films, video/audio tapes, photographs, and software programs. Ensures campers and staff follows safety procedures. Participates enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights and other all-camp activities and camp functions. Sits with camper tables during meals and serve as a table monitor when needed. Keeps personal living quarters neat, clean, and ready for inspection.


Recreation (70%)

Plans, develops, coordinates, supervises, and participates in a variety of recreation activities for the campers to include field sports (softball, baseball, soccer, field hockey, lacrosse, etc.) and other sporting activities; organizes activities and promotes participation. Sets up sports and recreation areas for activities, have all necessary equipment available for activities. Performs all duties in accordance with prescribed regulatory compliance guidelines as well as American Camp Association accreditation standards. Supervises recreation activities to ensure safety of participants; instructs campers and staff in proper methods for play; monitors and directs behavior at all times to ensure compliance with camp rules. Leads classes such as archery and air rifle classes. Ensures a positive experience for campers. Ensures the recreation area and supplies are clean and free from debris at all times. Identifies potential hazards and responds appropriately and in a timely manner. Conduct a daily inspection of all recreational areas and equipment for safety, cleanliness and needed repair or replacement as well as an initial and end of session inventory and store equipment properly. Ensure the sports equipment and fields are locked and secured after each session. Participate enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights and other all-camp activities and camp functions. Sit with camper tables during meals and serve as a table monitor when needed. Keep personal living quarters neat, clean, and ready for inspection. Performs other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of media production, communication, dissemination techniques and methods. Knowledge of electronic equipment and computer hardware software. Knowledge of the principles and practices of modern video production.

Knowledge of fundamentals, rules, and regulations of field sports. Knowledge of the principles and practices of good sportsmanship. Ability to ensure the safety of recreation participants. Ability to plan, develop, facilitate, lead, and supervise sporting events and activities. Ability to build and maintain effective mentor relationships with children. Ability to communicate effectively with campers and camp staff. Ability to perform live saving techniques, C.P.R. and first aid procedures in emergency situations. Ability to operate digital cameras and video equipment. Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff. Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity. Respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid; must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.


Education and Experience

Two years’ experience in video production and leading sports or recreation activities preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.


Certifications

CPR and First Aid Certification Archery/Air Rifles Certification


Physical Requirements

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to observe children and youth and ensure their safety. Ability to work with children outdoors in various conditions. Endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate audio/visual equipment and activities are required. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.


Working Conditions

Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available. Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions.


Additional Information
Camp Staff Orientation will be held June 7 – June 11, 2023, and participation is required. The 2023 Summer Camp program session will be held June 12 - July 22, 2023.
