The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a Junior Music Instructor for Camp Hoblitzelle's Summer Camp Program located in Midlothian, Texas.
Job Summary
Supports and coordinates the functions of the Conservatory Arts program; ensures the quality of programs and safety of youth at all times; provides guidance and role modeling to youth and ensures safety and a positive experience for campers.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles and practices of child and youth behavior and development. Knowledge of the principles and practices of First Aid and C.P.R and ability to ensure the safety of campers and other staff. Knowledge of the principles and practices of music education. Ability to teach classes in a group setting. Knowledge and ability to teach band, guitar or piano. Ability to foster team work with youth in learning how to develop musical skills for performances. Ability to assist youth in planning and goal setting for personal and team activities. Ability to recruit and train volunteers. Ability to work with diverse people from all social and economic backgrounds. Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff. Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity. Ability to build and maintain effective mentor relationships with children and youth. Ability to plan, develop, and implement effective childhood and youth programs and activities. Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid; Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers. Ability to read and hear music notes. Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to demonstrate exercises and dance routines. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
Education and Experience
Six months experience teaching music, with the ability to perform and teach lessons in a classroom setting involving more than one student preferred OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Some physical requirements of the Camp Conservatory Junior Music Instructor position could be endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate music equipment and activities are required. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available. Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions.

Compensation is $45.83 a day or $275.00 for a worked week
