The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a Nurse for Camp Hoblitzelle's Summer Camp Program, located in Midlothian, Texas.
Job Summary
Plans, directs, facilitates, coordinates, and monitors the day-to-day medical needs of camp staff and campers; reviews medical information and stays abreast of techniques and medical information needed to maintain a healthy environment; offers medical advice to the staff and campers as needed; dispenses medications to staff and campers as needed according to physician’s prescription. Supervises the activities of the nursing staff and ensures compliance with established policies and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles and practices of professional nursing. Knowledge of the principles and practices of C.P.R., First Aid, and Nutrition. Knowledge of general medical terminology. Ability to determine the ability of sick campers to participate in camp activities and to determine if a doctor's visit is necessary. Ability to detect and prevent illnesses in adults and children. Ability to prepare and maintain accurate medical records. Ability to build and maintain effective mentor relationships with children and youth. Ability to communicate effectively with campers and camp staff. Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff. Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity. Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid; Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers. Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to conduct examinations of campers and staff.
Education and Experience
Current Registered Nurse certification required, and Four years progressively responsible experience supervising nursing activities, preferably in a camp, school or related environment preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Certifications: Current State License as a Registered Nurse (RN) (state based on camp location) CPR and First Aid Certified Current and Valid Driver’s License
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Some physical requirements of the Camp Nurse position could be endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate Nurse equipment and activities are required. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program in the facility available. Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying environmental conditions.

Compensation is $166.67 a day or $1,000.00 for an entire worked week
