JOB OBJECTIVE: The Sr. Benefits Analyst researches, analyzes, evaluates, and administers corporate benefit & total rewards plans and programs to create market competitive and progressive offerings that enhance the employee experience. Analyzes current benefits/total rewards trends to estimate impact on organization and tracks applicable benefits/total rewards legislation.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Benefits Administration & Communication
- Coordinates daily benefits processing. Handles monthly enrollments, open enrollment, COBRA, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability, life insurance claims, and compliance testing. Coordinates with HR partners regarding benefit transitions for transfers/status changes. Ensures thorough documentation related to benefits processing is placed in a confidential location separate from the employee file.
- Audits benefits-related data. Ensures accuracy of benefits enrollment and premium deductions. Processes payroll adjustments and invoices when needed.
- Designs and distributes benefit materials for monthly enrollment, open enrollment, and summary plan descriptions. Develops and maintains communication tools to enhance understanding of the company’s benefits package.
- Maintains effective and compassionate communication with employees regarding benefits/total rewards programs and company/state/federal policies related to these programs. Responds to general benefits/total rewards inquiries made by team members.
- Works collaboratively with members of the People Team and across TRHC to foster a high-performing team, drive engagement, and enhance the employee experience.
Analysis, Vendor & Budget Management
- Analyzes complex benefits information. Develops analytics to evaluate the effectiveness of benefits/total rewards programs for possible plan design changes and cost changes.
- Evaluates market data to evaluate competitiveness and best practices. Develops recommendations for management that balance employee needs, market data, best practices, and budget parameters.
- Develops census data for insurance carriers and management. Coordinates with broker(s) to solicit program requests for proposals or quotations. Evaluates quotes received from vendors and develops recommendations for management.
- Implements approved new plans or changes to existing plans. Prepares announcement materials, plan summary documents, and other media for communicating to employees. Conducts employee meetings and arranges for enrollment.
- Serves as primary contact for third-party administrators and/or plan vendors. Performs transfer of data for enrollment, services, premiums, and plan administration. Processes monthly billings for payment of administrative fees for assigned benefit plans.
Compliance
- Administers leaves of absence (LOAs), worker’s compensation (WC), and other disability benefit programs in coordination with third-party administrators. Coordinates transfer of data for services and program administration. Effectively interprets FMLA/ADA/WC regulations, the coordination of benefits, and company policies related to these programs. Supports HR Business Partners with LOA/ADA/WC inquiries as requested.
- Assures compliance with provisions of Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) and Affordable Care Act (ACA). Reviews and analyzes changes to state and federal laws pertaining to benefits and reports necessary or suggested changes to management. Coordinates with HR partners to quarterly audit in compliance with ACA look-back requirement along with 1095/5500 tax filings for benefit programs. Prepares benefit-related reports and spreadsheets as requested for internal HR needs. Partners with payroll for completion of annual audits and filings, taxable fringe benefits, tuition reimbursement, and other total rewards program requirements.
- Proposes policy updates as needed. Keeps abreast of benefits administration best practices. Creates and maintains standard operating procedures for duties/tasks performed and implements process improvements.

EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field required. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Professional certification preferred (i.e., CEBs, PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP).
EXPERIENCE:
- 5+ years of experience in employee benefits administration required.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
- Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, research methods and data analysis techniques.
- Ability to maintain the highest levels of confidentiality for sensitive personnel issues, sensitive strategic corporate information, and employee data.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with discretion, tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
- Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, a self-starter, possess critical thinking skills and be able to set priorities and function as part of a team as well as independently. Demonstrates strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Demonstrates strong project management skills with the ability to implement new projects from concept to execution managing timelines, communications, budget, etc while maintaining a high level of responsiveness to internal and external clients.
- Highly analytical with the ability to conduct audits, perform detailed analysis of qualitative and quantitative data including skill in creating complex spreadsheets which require the use of complex formulas. Demonstrates skill in creating reports, evaluating personnel and financial data, summarizing key observations, and presenting options for consideration.
- Advanced computer skills: HR Information System (i.e., Ceridian Dayforce), various benefit platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite. Advanced technical proficiencies include but are not limited to: report writing and Excel using quantitative analysis, charting, pivot tables, formulas/algorithms, and trend analysis.
- Demonstrates initiative and accountability with the ability to take primary ownership of assigned benefits/total rewards programs and administration.
