About the Position:
 

The Hemlocks Center of Oak Hill is seeking part time lifeguards to staff the facility indoor pool and private pond.  The Hemlocks Center lifeguards are responsible for providing a safe environment for those with or without disabilities, swimming in the pool and/or boating or fishing on the pond. Lifeguards’ principal duties are to ensure the safety and well-being of the patrons and to observe and enforce all rules and regulations of the pool and pond. The ideal candidates will be experienced and possess valid required certifications. Lifeguard shifts may include opportunities to work mornings, days, evenings and weekends. The Hemlocks Center Lifeguards report to The Hemlocks Center Manager.  This individual will have contact with internal and external parties.

Qualification Requirements:
 

  • Current Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Required.
  • Current CPR/ First Aid/AED Certifications Required
  • Safety focused

 

Duties and Responsibilities:   

  1. Candidates must be diligent in protecting the safety of patrons by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors to prevent drowning and other injuries. 
  2. Lifeguards will monitor activities in swimming areas to prevent accidents and assist swimmers, as needed.  
  3. Cautions swimmers about usage areas and ensures that order is always maintained in swimming areas.
  4. Inspect facilities for any dangers and reports them to The Hemlocks Center Manager. 
  5. Enforce pool policies, communicating effectively why policies are in place.
  6. Implement the Emergency Action Plan and provide rescues and care as indicated by certification as needed.
  7. Performs all lifeguard duties, including ability to lift people out of pool, perform CPR, scan pool to ensure safety of participants.
  8. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
  9. Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving and for the duration of the shift.
  10. Communicate and enforces all Hemlocks Center and pool and pond policies and rules in a personable and professional manner. 
  11. Applies proper radio protocol and response in a timely manner. 
  12. Attend and participate in regular in-service trainings. 
  13. Document any incidents and/or injuries. 
  14. Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others. 
  15. Performs all secondary duties in a timely manner as required for each shift. 
  16. Perform other duties as assigned
