About the Position:
 
Recreational Counselors are responsible for facilitating and leading individuals with disabilities through the participation of various camp and recreational activities. Provide assistance and engagement with the programmatic elements of Camp by supporting participants in a safe environment, while promoting a meaningful and enjoyable experience for all. The Recreational Counselor works under the supervision of the Camp Manager and Director of Camps and Recreation. Recreational Counselors will have contact with Camps and Recreation staff, Oak Hill employees, individuals with disabilities, campers, and caregivers. This position does not include supervision of other staff or direct supervision/direct care of participants.

Qualification  Requirements: 
 
  
High school diploma/ GED, willingness, and ability to learn how to provide for campers of all ages and ability levels.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
 
  1. Participates in preparing Oak Hill’s Camps and Recreation facilities for campers prior to their arrival, including the preparation of materials for service provision.
  2. Supports campers/participants with navigation of programmatic offerings and directs questions to the appropriate lead staff.
  3. Provides instruction and executes activities to facilitate engagement and participation in recreational programs through creative experiences, modifying activities to support individual needs.
  4. Attends and participates in team meetings to provide input on the needs of campers/participants assisting Oak Hill’s Camps and Recreation lead staff with the evaluation and implementation of accessible modifications.
  5. Interacts with campers/participants in a professional and age-appropriate manner, consistent with the idea of role modeling and the enhancement of self-esteem. Treats information regarding campers/participants with discretion to maintain confidentiality.
  6. Additional duties and responsibilities as determined by the Camp Manager and Director of Camps and Recreation.
  7. Represents Oak Hill’s Camps and Recreation program in a positive and professional manner while interacting with campers/participants, co-workers, families and others; ensure that all actions, activities and decisions are aligned with Oak Hill’s vision and values; creates a welcoming person-centered environment.
