Waste Management Operator - Public Services
JOB SUMMARY
The Waste Management Operator is responsible for the operation of heavy equipment in support of division activities including collecting and hauling construction and vegetative debris.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Operates scow trucks and other department heavy trucks/equipment to haul rock, dirt, refuse and/or trash in support of department activities

Performs basic and routine light maintenance on heavy equipment

Safely operate heavy equipment while in close proximity to vehicles, structures, and people
-
Collects garbage and trash throughout the town in a safe and efficient manner
-
Represents the Town and interacts with the public on a daily basis

Performs other duties as assigned that relate to Construction and Demolition (C&D) or Municipal Solid Waste (MSW)

Performs other duties as required
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
-
High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year prior work experience

Or equivalent combination of education and experience
-
Valid South Carolina Driver’s License
-
Commercial Driver’s License
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
-
Knowledge of operation and maintenance of heavy equipment and effective practices and techniques
-
Knowledge of department safety practices and techniques
-
Knowledge of various department tools and equipment
-
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in written form
-
Ability to follow directions and complete tasks in a detailed and accurate manner

Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees

Ability to work independently or as part of a team
-
Ability to work under adverse weather conditions.
