Clinical Staff Description and Responsibilities
Neurology Department 

Reports to: Clinic Office Manager

Description and Purpose: Managing patient care involves a team of clinical and nonclinical staff interacting with patients and working to achieve patient-centered care.  Job descriptions and responsibilities of the care team emphasize a team-based approach to patient care and promote training of team members to meet the highest level of function allowed by state law.  
 
Procedure: The job description and responsibilities are defined for Clinical Staff in the Neurology department at Murfreesboro Medical Clinic below:

Job Title: Neurology Office Nurse, CNA or MA

Job Description: To provide guidance and support in Neurology Department, adhere to all policies and procedures of MMC, and meet the needs of patients in a teamwork approach.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office setting and involves frequent telephone contact, as well as face-to-face communication with patients.  Interactions with others in constant and interruptive.  There is possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, bodily fluids, and other conditions common to medical practice.  Varied activities including walking, bending, reaching, lifting (up to 30 pounds), stooping, assisting patients and sitting for extended periods of time may occur.  Also, occasional stress from multiple responsibilities.  

Job Responsibilities:
• Represent MMC in a courteous and professional manner
• Greet guests and incoming calls in a polite, prompt, and helpful manner
• Set up exam rooms; assist doctor/provider in office exams and performs/assists diagnostic procedures
• Performs chart prep for next day patients, assist patients to rooms, perform proper intake, begin office note, and enter requested lab and x-ray orders in the EMR.
• Knowledge and use of required documentation (Quality Reporting, Coding, etc)
• Provide patients with proper education concerning medication and treatment
• Clean and sterilize exam rooms after use.
• Be flexible when asked to stay past your scheduled work time (as needed) to accommodate the needs of patients
• Must complete all Healthstream assignments on time
• Plan, prioritize and organize work load to maintain efficient patient/client operation in the department to include; daily task list completion
• Communicates with patients about lab results, questions, medications, symptoms etc. 
• Notify patients of test results as directed by doctor/provider and chart all contact with patients
• Process prescription refill requests 
• Maintain necessary stock and inventory
• Chart all communications with patients, call prescriptions to pharmacy as directed by doctor/provider, file labwork, radiology reports and other documents in patient chart.
• Complete prior authorizations for medications, MRI’s, etc. and any other patient forms necessary, daily
• Provide prompt, efficient, and accurate patient service
• Meet or exceed patient, doctor, and staff expectations through a cooperative, teamwork approach
• Be at your workstation on time and prepared to start the day
• Email communication is utilized in this department for important messages and updates.  Staff members are expected to read emails frequently.
• Be knowledgeable of and adhere to all HIPAA and OSHA guidelines.
• Be knowledgeable of and adhere to all MMC policies and procedures.  
• With instruction, perform other duties as required or assigned to include; training new staff

Education/Experience Requirements
-Completion of Medical Assistant educational program or LPN License
-Experience preferred but not required
