Purchasing Agent - VarcoMac
Position: Purchasing Agent/Purchasing Assistant (Full-Time)
VarcoMac is seeking a talented individual for the position of Purchasing Agent or Purchasing Assistant to join our purchasing team. The potential candidates for this position are detail oriented with a high level of understanding in the commercial electrical industry. Candidates must be very well organized with the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a high output in a fast paced environment. This position will report to the Purchasing Manager and become part of a successful electrical organization with the opportunity for growth as we expand our footprint in the Washington DC and Baltimore Markets.
Daily responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Receive and take email orders for materials, equipment, and tools for service and construction projects.
- Shopping of material requisitions for best price and availability through the company’s vendor network.
- Evaluate quotes for best value and terms.
- Negotiate terms of purchase orders.
- Process purchase orders through the company accounting system and vendors.
- Process order acknowledgements and arrange deliveries to site personnel.
- Maintain procurement records.
- Expediting of critical orders through vendor relationships and outside resources.
- Maintain vendor relationships.
- Assist Accounts Payable department with invoicing and purchase order issues.
- Fleet management assistance and coordination.
- Assist in office maintenance.
- Shipping & Receiving for the Odenton Office.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the commercial, industrial, and governmental electrical markets.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically excel, exchange, word.
- Knowledgeable of enterprise accounting systems.
- Proficient in procurement best practices and procedures.
- Logistics background a plus.
- Fleet management a plus.
- Highly functional and comfortable in a fast paced environment.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- In-Office position – hybrid not applicable.
- Work hours are 7am-4pm with 1hr lunch break Mon-Fri – available by phone during off hours.
Education and Experience:
- 2yrs college or associates degree in general education
- Or 2yrs experience in a similar role.
- Proficient in basic office software; Outlook, Excel, Word
