The Portfolio Manager II manages bond and equity investments for investment management accounts and/or fiduciary (irrevocable and revocable trust) accounts in support of Trust business objectives.  This is an intermediate professional role with moderate skills and a high level of proficiency.   

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 

  • Works under general supervision with increased latitude for independent judgment.   
  • Identifies non-routine issues and routes/escalates to appropriate team member. 
  • Participates with Trust Officers, Financial Advisors, Portfolio Managers and clients to develop high quality investment strategies/solutions based on management philosophy and customer objectives. 
  • Delivers high quality service to Trust Officers, Financial Advisors, Portfolio Managers and clients. 
  • Ensures execution of investment strategies to maximize returns commensurate with an acceptable level of risk. 
  • Performs investment research, stays informed of developments in security markets, and confers with tax attorneys, accountants, etc. to determine legal consequences of investment decisions and resolve account problems. 
  • Assists in initial and ongoing due diligence for external parties utilizing Arden Trust Company’s trustee services. 
  • Assists in all aspects of portfolio management activities for a dedicated group of accounts. 
  • Assists in oversight of day to day management and monitoring of investment portfolios. 
  • Discusses portfolio positioning, securities held and general market and economic conditions with Trust Officers and clients. 
  • Cultivates and retains new trust and investment management accounts. 
  • Identifies issues and problems, responding quickly and decisively. 
  • Analyzes complex problems and identifies appropriate solutions. 
  • Provides advice and guidance to clients and trust personnel. 
  • Ensures compliance and consistency with company investment policy provisions. 
  • Works closely with trading team to implement changes. 
  • Analyzes ongoing performance of portfolios and underlying securities. 
  • Participates in oversight functions of an operational nature. 
  • Other related duties assigned as needed. 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND/OR ABILITIES: To perform this job successfully, the individual should have the following skills and abilities. 

  • Ability to form opinions on markets, individual securities and quality of investment strategies and managers  
  • Excellent problem solving, independent decision making, analytical and time management skills managing multiple tasks/deadlines for self and others 
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high-pressure environment either independently or within a team 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to technical and non-technical audiences of various s levels in the organization (e.g. executive, management, individual contributors) including the ability to communicate complex ideas and solutions to trust administrators and end clients in terms that are understandable 
  • Ability to form opinions on markets, individual securities and quality of investment strategies and managers 
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software is essential as well as experience with Sungard Trust, Bloomberg, trading systems and venues 
  • Willingness to pursue professional investment designation (CFA, CFP)   


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBLITIES: None 

  

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:   

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Economics or other related discipline or the equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience. 
  • 3 - 5 year’s Portfolio Manager experience
