Radiology Reading Room Assistant- Boston

Our internU team is seeking an Entry Level Reading Room Assistant to support resident and attending physicians in the radiology reading room during evening and weekend hours. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Contact referring clinicians and connect them to radiologists as needed; all requests will be tracked and validated for quality assurance
  • Perform telephone triage for incoming calls to radiologists and technologists, and transfer to appropriate service or individuals
  • Act as liaison for ED needing to contact radiologist
  • Act as liaison to technologists needing to contact radiologist for a STAT read
  • Work with several radiology and hospital electronic systems to monitor workflow, identify problems, and assist with image transfer when needed
  • Respond to requests from radiologists when they need to contact hospital personnel (e.g., Hospital or Department IT) regarding work equipment issues or study status issues that prevent timely interpretation and creation of a report
  • Investigate the cause of problem studies and work to resolve issues with appropriate personnel
  • Check the status of ED studies and notify radiologists if a reading is not performed within 90 minutes
  • Check daily overdue signing report and notify radiologists
  • Track activities, including time spent contacting referring clinicians, number of interruptions, and number of problems resolved, to assess impact on the department
  • Perform an inventory of the radiologists’ workstation environment and providing quality assurance
  • Maintain the clarity of the PACS monitors with screen cleaner
  • Ensure that the reading rooms are clean (desktops, trash bins, carpets, etc.) and involve appropriate manager for escalation as necessary
  • Ensure that all ancillary support equipment is working properly and involve the appropriate manager for escalation and resolution

Required Skills:

  • Good verbal and communication skills; accurate documentation skills; ability to read and correctly pronounce medical terminology; must have excellent phone etiquette.
  • Must have good computer skills to understand, navigate, and enter data on multiple IT systems and Radiology-centric systems.
  • Must be able to multitask and handle acute, stressful and busy periods.  Task completion with accuracy is critical.
  • Ability to work with stressful situations
  • Ability to function efficiently and professionally with a minimum of supervision.
  • Ability to quickly learn new procedures.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Ability to schedule complex radiology patient appointments.
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to display compassion and empathy
  • Minimum one year hospital, medical office or related experience

Preferred:  Associates/Bachelors degree in related

Hours: Full-time or Part-time (Night shift and weekend hours)
