Batch Maker

 

Position Summary

The PA Batch Maker assists in the compounding of batches to meet standards and specifications for products manufactured at the Paxinos site and at times the Caledonia MI site.

 

Functions and Responsibilities

      Accurately weigh all ingredients and follow all instructions for specified batch

       Produce finished fill ingredient batches within required specifications

      Calculate amounts of ingredients needed for various batch requirements and sizes

      Read batch cards to determine product specifications, processing information, and technical information

      Record production and test data for each batch, such as: ingredients and lot numbers used, temperatures, mixing speeds, test results, etc

      Combine and processes weighed ingredients, observing batch throughout manufacturing process

      Maintain accurate and detailed records and logs of all work performed

      Demonstrate knowledge of and perform within acceptable laboratory safety standards

       Deposit finished batch into correct containers with specified weights for the fill lines

      Operate all equipment including: drum tippers, pallet jacks, straddle stacker, batch tanks, pumps, etc

       Clean and sanitize the batching equipment up to standard while following procedure

       Accurately tag/barcode fill ingredient containers

       Sample finished product by following the correct procedure to ensure safety and quality of the sample

      Maintain a healthy and safe work environment

      General housekeeping of work area: sweeping/mopping floors, cleaning up possible spills, organization of chemicals and materials, etc

       Demonstrates the ability to follow established procedures according to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)

       Identifies safety risks and recommends solutions

       Ensure work area is kept clean and up to 5S standard

       Must be detail oriented, Self motivated and able to work independently

       Able to follow production schedule

       Ability to travel and stay overnight if required for periods of time

       Perform other duties as assigned and required, including but not limited to production

Required Skills/Abilities
 

       Basic computer skills including Word, Excel

       Ability to accurately weigh and record weights, adding and subtracting

       Experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting

       An independent, organized self-starter and team player who can assess needs and deliver results

       Ability to learn and safely operate various forms of PIT equipment

       Must be approved and trained to use tight fitting NIOSH respirators

       Successfully complete permit required  confined space and other mandated trainings

       Ability to change work schedule when deemed necessary. This may include changing from an 8 hour shift to a 10 hour shift - from a 5 day work week to a 4 day work week, the need to stay to finish a product that can not wait until the next day

 

Physical Demands

       Lift and move objects up to 50 pounds each

       Regular bending, lifting, stretching and reaching both below the waist and above the head

       This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day

       Able to carry 5 gallon buckets while climbing ladder to kettle 8 to 10 hours a day

       Must be able to stand/walk for up to 8-10 hours

       While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate verbally and/or with visual cues

       Ability to climb ladders and gangways safely and without limitation

       Engage in full manual dexterity in both hands and wrists

       Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus

       Working conditions may include small spaces, dust, fumes/odors, hot/cold temperatures, inside/outside noise, vibration, standing on concrete for long hours and wet or uneven surfaces

      Ability to wear Proper PPE - protective clothing, required shoes, respirators, etc

     Must be clean shaven for respirator

      Must have reliable transportation
