The Lead Issues Writer/Analyst position exists to maintain ministry expertise on the core issues of concern to Focus on the Family and The Daily Citizen for the development and implementation of strategies to advance issues of concern to the family, including religious freedom.
 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Reports, writes, and contributes timely, daily articles for The Daily Citizen


Collects, maintains, and analyzes information on assigned topic(s) for use in developing strategies and resources to advance religious freedom


Attends and covers conferences and other events of relevance to America’s first freedoms


Assists the Vice President in developing, facilitating, and managing projects and content development


Supports individual analysts in their roles as ministry experts by aiding content and product development


Recommends and implements effective strategies – both proactive and defensive – to influence public policy debate and alter policy outcomes


Represents Focus on the Family (FOF) as a public spokesperson on issue(s) of expertise


Monitors key developments regarding issue(s) of expertise to apprise ministry and provide direction for subsequent actions


Produces “user-friendly,” issue-specific materials in a variety of formats to support ministry needs and specific action goals


Other Duties/Responsibilities:

Performs other duties, including but not limited to duties as assigned, some of which may include the development and creation of a variety of copyrightable works (e.g., print, photography, film, music, visual arts, etc.) for distribution in any and all media and formats (such as television, radio, internet, wireless, DVD, satellite and digital) on a world-wide basis, all of which shall be for the benefit of Focus on the Family


Managerial Breadth/Scope of Job:

Provides direct supervision for up to 5 staff members, as assigned


Working Environment/Physical Requirements:

Office environment


Occasional travel, as needed


This role may require occasional travel including nights and weekends


JOB QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

Character/Spiritual:

Exemplifies Ephesians 5:1-2, “Therefore be imitators of God as dear children and walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us...”


Pursues the Great Commission given by Jesus Christ in Matthew 28:19-20, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”


Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ; maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Focus; adheres to the Standard of Moral Conductand Statement of Faith; upholds Focus on the Family's ministry in prayer


Prays personally for Focus on the Family’s staff and constituents and may occasionally lead in a public prayer


Engages in Christian ministry


Demonstrates behaviors aligned with FOF core values
 

This role is considered a Spokesperson for Focus on the Family and should represent Focus’ position and tone at all times


Knowledge/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in related field; Master’s Degree preferred


5-7 years experience in conducting research and analysis or issue advocacy


Public speaking experience


In-depth knowledge of FOF mission, philosophy, values, and objectives


Understanding of political process and public policies issues impacting the family


Skills, Abilities, and Special Talents/Gifts:

Desire to advance pro-family public policy successes


Research and writing skills


Well-developed social and communication skills


Public speaking skills


Competent in the use of a personal computer and related software


Salary Range: $70,716 to $81,117/yr.
