BASIC PURPOSE:

The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and monitoring all databases (PostGreSQL Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Informix, and others) and associated infrastructure in a 24/7 production environment both on premise and in the cloud. The Administrator ensures 100% uptime, plans future capacity requirements, maintains security, applies updates, and solves technical challenges by analyzing, troubleshooting, and designing vital services, platforms, and infrastructure while always thinking about reliability, scalability, resilience, security, and performance.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Administers database systems for production, development, test, stage, environments for all the systems in the company including PostGreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, and Informix, both on premise and cloud based (AWS/Azure).
  • Supports the Informix environments (Production, Dev, Test). Performs environment refreshes from production data as needed. Troubleshoot and resolve production issues.
  • Configures and maintain the replication environment (currently HADR offsite) to cloud.
  • Performs database software installations, maintenance upgrades and patches.
  • Ensures the integrity of host computers, cloud setup, databases, and data transfers.
  • Performs troubleshooting and problem resolution for the database systems, works with database vendor technical support if needed.
  • Implements database backup and recovery procedures including disaster recovery procedures for all environments, working with cloud vendors on backup and recovery strategies.
  • Designs and programs scripts to manage data, proactively monitoring and maintaining the health of the database environment.
  • Performs performance tuning to conform with acceptable service levels.
  • Provides database support to application development and integration team.
  • Creates and implements standards and policies for database design, setup, security, and usage.
  • Performs and documents database production deployments including application programs in compliance with regulatory requirements (Sarbanes-Oxley).
  • Evaluates new technologies that relate to databases, storage, and cloud-based systems.
  • Provides 24x7 support for the production databases.
  • Manages process for communicating outage/emergency activities to the organization. Manage vendor relationships as it depends on daily operational needs. Review survey feedback to improve services, tools, and support experience.
  • Must be able to develop successful relationships and partner with individuals within Shared Services, Accounting, Financial Planning & Analysis and Operational Management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS/BA in Information Systems or equivalent experience is desirable
  • Proven hands-on experience in both legacy and cloud environments
  • 5+ years’ experience DBA management on major database platforms (PostGreSQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Informix,)
  • Expert knowledge of Informix Replication (HADR High Availability Data Replication, RSS, SDS)
  • Solid understanding of Database Administration procedures, practices, and concepts
  • 3+ years’ experience with AWS/Azure systems
  • 3+ years data warehouse technologies with a focus in AWS
  • 2+ years’ experience with Microsoft PowerBI
