Home Repair Technician
CHAI: Comprehensive Housing Assistance, Inc. is a nonprofit housing and community development organization serving northwest Baltimore. For almost four decades of community service, CHAI has been forging deep connections and helping residents of all ages thrive, making our neighborhoods a stronger, better place in which to live, learn, and grow older.
CHAI has an immediate opening for a full-time Home Repair Technician to provide safety modifications and general home repair services for older adults and individuals with disabilities. The ideal candidate will be multi-skilled and have a working knowledge of basic home improvements such as carpentry, light plumbing and electrical.
Responsibilities:
- Home repair and modification services, including but not limited to:
· minor plumbing repairs
· minor electrical repairs
· cement repairs for steps, sidewalks, foundation
· repair/install locks on doors/windows
· smoke detector/carbon monoxide service & installation
· screen/glass replacement for windows/doors
· gutter work, clean out, repair
· grab bar and railing installation
· repair interior/exterior doors
· minor roofing repairs
- Prioritize, track and document work orders
- Communicate and coordinate with clients and contractors
- Review contractor estimates to ensure fair pricing and comprehensive scope of work
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- 3+ years of repair work or contracting experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience using both hand and power tools and other tools of the trade
- Driver’s license with clean driving record
- Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and materials
- Basic technology skills (email, texting, etc.)
- Ability to communicate effectively, in English with a diverse group of colleagues, vendors and older adult clients
- MHIC License contractor preferred
Compensation & Benefits
$40k-$45k for unlicensed and $45k-$50k for MHIC licensed
