DENTAL ASSISTANT JOB DESCRIPTION
RESPONSIBLE TO:Practice Manager
FUNCTION:
Provides assistance to the Dentist in performing dental procedures. Prepares operatories and patient for scheduled procedure. This role is responsible for patient instruction regarding follow-up scheduling, recording and documentation, supply care and inventory, and other related duties in a professional and confidential manner. Provides general organization of equipment and patient treatment areas as necessary.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of dental office procedures and dental terminology; must be self-directed and motivated to complete daily assigned tasks; able to work under pressure to meet demands of professional staff and/or patient; must possess writing skills, flexibility, neatness, organization, and good time management skills. Physical condition or reasonable accommodation(s) commensurate with responsibilities of the job. Annual certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation required.
DENTAL ASSISTANT TRAINEE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (SG 12)
High School diploma and two (2) years of work history in the medical or healthcare profession.
DENTAL ASSISTANT I MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (SG 13)
High school diploma/GED and two (2) years of experience as a Dental Assistant.
Note: Graduate of an accredited Dental Assistant program can substitute for two (2) years of experience as referenced above.
DENTAL ASSISTANT II MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (SG 14)
High school diploma or GED plus five (5) years of work experience with favorable work history, as a dental assistant.
Note: Graduate of an accredited Dental Assistant program can substitute for two (2) years of experience as referenced above.

DUTIES
1. To act as an assistant to the dentist, in whatever capacity necessary to ensure the comfort of the patient.
2. To clean exam rooms between patients’ use and prepare the exam rooms with clean supplies for each patient visit
3. To assist in the preparation of the patient as necessary, for initial and follow-up evaluations and treatment.
4. To wash all non-disposable equipment according to instructions for disinfection, perform routine maintenance of instruments, wrap and autoclave all instruments for continued usage.
5. Performs necessary infection control spore checks on autoclaves and log results on a monthly basis.
6. Develop and mount x-rays and maintain x-ray tank solutions.
7. Inventories supplies, rotates, and orders additional supplies as instructed or as necessary.
8. May be required to physically assist the patient or practitioner with patients who are unable to manage simple activities of daily living.
9. All other duties as assigned by Practice Manager or Dentist.
